Pontification Ad Nauseam is now accepting applications through the end of October for one to two openings. We’d like as many applications as we can get, so, if you’re interested, please see the application form here and send it in to applications@pontificationadnauseam.com where Ella Marie Hansen and Laura Russell will prepare your application for the judges and answer any administrative questions you have. This same information can be found on the Contact page.

The three judges will be John Ahern, Philip Hilton, and Hannah Roorda. We expect not a few applications to come in, so please consider both that the competition is already strong and that it may take the judges a while to come to a decision. Also be aware that we may chose to fill both, one, or neither of the positions depending on the quality of the applications and the direction the Executive and Associate Editors would like to see Pontification Ad Nauseam go.

Pontificators (non-ecclesiastical),

As you can tell, PAN has a slightly different layout. We now have a website powered by Wordpress.org, which allows us to have absolute sovereignty over the posts, pages, and links, as well as the facile ability to design our own layout, upload our own files, have internal site meters, and control commenting options with more precision.

This fabulous new look in all its minute details and shockingly good taste is all working magnificently, thanks to the hard work of the Executive Technical Editor Mr. Holmes. The Circulation Editor, Miss Roorda, has also worked hard to provide PAN with a tidy system of categories and tags. She emailed both Mr. Holmes and myself, hardly able to restrain her deep emotion, requesting that we emphasize to you, the uneducated mass of contributors, the importance of applying proper categories and tags to your posts. It isn’t too hard to figure out, and this is a simple procedural matter we shall try hard to overlook if you are slightly sloppy (and we’ll send you helpful little reminders if you forget).

As most of you know, we have been considering purchasing a domain for PAN for some time. This will improve our beloved blog about a thousand fold and give us more credibility so that we can attract more readers, contributors, and interviewees. I have discussed this matter with John Ahern, founder, patron, managing editor, and mascot extraordinaire, and I have put it to him that, as managing editor, it should be his place to fund our beloved publication in this endeavor. Ladies and gentlemen, to my great surprise, he has enthusiastically agreed to shell out the dough. Please let’s let him hear our thanks and praise for his generosity in this matter, and we will keep you informed as to when we will begin the adjustment from homely blog to internet publication.

As you may know, Pontification Ad Nauseam is adding 7 new members to its ranks. As such, there are a few revisions to our Standard Administrative Procedures necessary.

Topic and Size – as Nick said, grab bag. The description to the right of our blog fits it pretty well. Keep it sharp and organized.

Posting - we have these rules for even distribution of contributions, and so that we don’t have large clumps of posts and then vast plateaus of inactivity.

(1) You must post at least once a month. It’s pretty conspicuous if you haven’t posted for a year and it isn’t conducive to have you on if you are terribly erratic.
(2) Do not post until at least 24 hours days after the previous person’s post.
(3) Do not post until seven [7] days after your last post.
(4) Do not post consecutively.
(5) As we do have 14 members and you’re all expected to post at least once a month, if you’ve already posted in a given month, yield to the people who haven’t posted yet. If you have 14 or 15 members posting once every month, and there’s two days for each to have their post at the top of the list, that means that if one person posts twice, another person doesn’t get to post that month.

Addendum – group posts, of course, represent each contributor involved, and so Mark and I both post in Love Lost & Regained, giving us both a post for the month.

A lot of you haven’t finished your bios yet. Please get those edited in as soon as possible. Those of you who haven’t are just labeled “Pending”, which is extremely boring. In a way, you slayed Bambi’s mom. Uhh, never mind.

May 23rd 2008

Hey, folks. I thought we needed a little bit of an update, given our situation, and John gave me the go ahead. If anyone has any disagreements, these are all, of course, entirely up for discussion (if anyone wants to add or remove anything, let me know). On the other hand, until someone objects, these are in effect. Just a few points

-We don’t have any explicit rules about topics. It’s really just a grab bag of stuff. Generally, try to keep it sharp and organized.

-This is important. Read this one. We have seven contributors right now, and each one has an assigned day. We’ve been using these rather loosely for the past few months, and they’ve served their purpose, but I don’t think we need them anymore. Instead –

*IF you haven’t posted for seven days, please post again. It doesn’t matter what day it is.

*IF nobody has posted for three days, please post, even if it’s been less than seven days since your last post.

*BUT if someone has posted in the past three days, please don’t post, out of courtesy.

*AND please don’t post if you were the last person to post.

-We’re looking for more contributors. If you want to contribute, you need to have three of the current contributors agree to let you in. We really want some more people, so even if you can only post a few times a year, please get in touch with one of us. We’d appreciate it.

*Normally, three people need to vouch for you to get in.

That’s it. Stay cool. Nick.
