I wrote this poem about a year or two ago. It is NOT structured verse, as you will immediately be able to tell. This was intentional, as it is supposed to be an emotional, free-flowing poem, springing directly from inspiration. I wrote it this way because it really is supposed to describe deep feelings–feelings that are hard to find good words for, feelings that just well up and overflow. It’s that simple… a poem overflowing. :)
When all I have left for you is nothing
Because I have given it all to everyone else
And tried to use it to make me happy
Since I forget I am only happy when I please you:
This is when I love you most.
Not because I have anything left to love with,
But because you break me
And give me a new body.
When I am part of that new body
(Because I am not the whole body)
We are stronger, fuller.
But only when you dwell in us.
So today when you call us,
Heal us.
But you do more than heal.
Oh Lord, you have fed us.
